The following pages list values for the different nutrients required by rabbits. The values on the following were taken from The Nutrition of the Rabbit edited by C. de Blas and Julian Wiseman and Nutritional Requirements of Rabbits second revised edition, 1977 published by the NRC. Both are primarily directed at the intensively reared rabbit, not at pet rabbits. Why is this important? Because intensively reared rabbits need to grow faster and put on weight at younger ages than our pet rabbits, their nutritional requirements may be higher. However, due to the lack of research on pet rabbits it is not known if they have different requirements than rabbits kept as livestock. Using the livestock values is the best we can do, even though we know many values may be different for pet rabbits.

Requirements

	Young rabbits under one year are rapidly growing and require energy, vitamins, minerals and protein to support that growth.
	Adult rabbits have a lower requirement for calories, vitamins, minerals and protein because they are no longer growing.
	Breeding and lactating rabbits need to support their own requirements as well as those of their growing babies.
	Angora and other long haired rabbits have similar needs to adult short haired bunnies.
